Bio/CV

Cindy is a visual artist who works primarily in sculpture, utilizing fibre alongside mixed media. She uses traditional felting and Japanese shibori techniques to create three dimensional structures. Drawing on her experience working in geology and geophysics, her design aesthetics gravitate to naturally occurring, repetitive patterns found in structural geology and seismology. More recently, her work is also informed by cellular forms found in plants and fungi. Through her artwork and processes she uses to create it, Cindy aims to inspire curiosity about the earths geological history and diverse plant life.

Fibre and art intersected for Cindy while attending Alberta University of Arts (formerly ACAD) in 1997. She fell in love with the unpredictable and natural beauty of felt making, sparking the beginning of her creative journey. Throughout her 38 year career in the oil and gas industry, she maintained an active studio practice. She retired in 2017 and moved to Montreal to complete her BFA in Fibre and Material Practices at Concordia University. She currently splits her studio practice between her home and cSPACE studio in Calgary. She has studied with internationally recognized artists in metal and fibre at the Penland School of Craft in North Carolina and in various workshops.

Cindy’s creative vision embraces community involvement, collaboration, and entrepreneurship. Inspiring appreciation in the possibilities of using fibre to create art is her passion.
